Your Sanctuary, Your Breathing Space

Updated: Feb 4, 2019

Inexpensive ways of creating a space that embodies positivity and serenity.

Your home is where you begin and end your day. Small decorative items can directly impact your mood. Quite often we buy things for our home that are usually trending or that we really like, this is in no way wrong, but what if what you bought was more intentional for your wellbeing. Here are some tips to make your space a Zen-Tuary with the simple use of accessories.

Flower Child

Plants do everything for an interior space.Sure with a busy schedule watering and tending to them could be a daunting task but there are ways around this. Plants are a great way of adding some life into your space. Plants act as decorative components, brighten up and adding color into your interior without directly competing with the colors you already have. While adding beauty to your space they also improve the quality and circulation of the air. Apart from all the great physical aspects of plants they have great psychological effects too. Tending to plants has a way of increasing the feeling of accomplishements. Trust me, seeing a budding of a flower or a new stem has a way of lifting your mood.

Succulents, ferns and orchids are not as high maintenance as you may think. Very little water is used to sustain them with once a week watering requirements.

Keep it chic: Try potting your plant in a basket instead of the conventional pot plant or even a brightly coloured pot with interesting patterns as an added design element

Get Lit

Burning candles can be remarkably calming. There is just something about the flickering of a burning flame and its natural light that makes a space seem a lot more relaxed. Try turning off all the main lights in your space and turn on your side lamps and light some candles. Automatically the muted lighting has a gentle stillness about it. We recommend starting your mornings with a few scented candles in your room just to add light and positivity to your day and in the evening to destress as you soak in a hot bath.

Tip: Go for aromatherapy scents like lavender, jasmine and sandalwood. These candles are made using essential oils, burn a lot slower and releasing scents with healing benefits.

Aroma

When you smell good you feel good, the same applies for your interior space. Burning some candles, oil and incense will make your home smell incredible.Switch up your scents by getting an array of different smelling candles, oils and incense. Go for the most natural of smells to keep the air smelling clean and light. For relaxation burn lavender, cinnamon to relieve feelings of exhaustion, peppermint for aches and pains and eucalyptus of energy. These are among many other scents you can pick from.

Tip:Use scented sachets in your linen cupboard.

Feng Shui

Wind chimes are known to send out positive vibes,so why not welcome the heavenly sound of gentle tinkles and whistles to bring peace and stillness to your home? The sweet melodic tunes are ideal for mediation or quiet thinking time.Fade out the sound of the outside world by hanging the chimes in a airy place by the window and watch how sound and transform your mood.

Keep your home clean

Most of us may have grown up hearing "A cluttered room is a cluttered mind" from our parents in the attempt to get us to clean up our rooms. There may have just been some truth to this. Keeping a clean home we believe keeps anxiety levels down and increases you ability to think clearer and perform better. This is inexpensive and has amazing benefits to your mood and. health. Make this seemingly dreadful task fun by blasting your favourite tunes and watch how easy the task goes. You can thank us later :)
