99 Juta - New Kids on the block

Seems like Johannesburg has gone pink! We took the day off to explore 99 Juta, in Braamies and we were not at all disappointed.

99 Juta, Johannesburg

99 Juta, is perfectly located in the central creative hub of Johannesburg, Braamfortein. Home to some of Jozi's young ingenious group of people, who challenge social norms by pushing the bar in fashion, art and design. A mere two blocks away from some of the city's hot hang out joints like; the hip Neighbour Goods Market, Kitcheners and Great Dane. This is a perfect spot to place some of South Africa's most talented creatives. A collaboration between Conurban, Dokter and Misses and Play Braamfontein, an architectural firm - Local Studio repurposed an already existing Joburg building to house high end local furniture designers.

Staying true to the city's architecture, Local Studio gives a contemporary spin to the exterior and interior of the building, making it an instant attraction to the busy street of Juta. Mosaic square tiles in a soft pink hue, adorn most of the exterior walls of the building. Placed below the pink tiles are emerald green mosaics giving the building a soft finish to this urban area. The industrial black framed picture windows give the building its edge. Sandwiched between two face brick concrete buildings , one just won't miss it.

Dokter and Misses

Spiralling staircases lead you up to the well lit and curated show rooms of SA's most sort after designers like; quirky designers Dokter and Misses, who feature throughout the building. The designers are known for their bright coloured, unique outlandish designs.

The Husband-and-wife duo Adriaan Hugo and Katy Taplin, combine their industrial and graphic designing skills to make magic. Their bold designs have captured the heart of the city with works seen in various stores throughout Joburg, like at the Nando's restaurant in Bryanston.

Joe Paine

Johannesburg based product designer Joe Paine first caught our attention with his creative take on 'conscious design', with the Forrester Planter. The planters encourage bringing plants into your interior spaces in a stylish way. We love Joe Paine for his sleek, futuristic designs. Pop in to see some of his cool designs like a favourite of ours, the Tower Planter with Hoop Trellis and the Klara Shelf.

The Urbanative + Mash.T Design Studio

Young interior designers and furniture designers Mpho Vackier and Thabisa Mjo, give life to the white walls and grey floors. The use of bright colours, pattern and print make all corners of apartment 2B interesting. These two continue to stand out in the industry, as they embrace African culture in their designs. Each design is inspired by African women and the rich diverse culture seen in the continent. A celebration of women in Africa by ways of design, is by far what makes their designs stand out.
